Monica Bush

Founder and Executive Director of Legendary Smiles

Legendary Smiles is a non-profit organization founded by Jason and Monica Bush in 2020.  Starting in 2012 with the birth of their son, our founders saw a need to bridge the gap between the hospital and the families they work with in the cleft and craniofacial community.  We connect families through our website and social media platforms.  This website helps parents and caregivers learn and view helpful resources.  Our founders help others by sharing their personal cleft journey, but always encourage families to stay in close contact with their child’s care team.  By connecting families and helping them build relationships, we will empower them.  Sharing from experience helps us support each other and pay it forward!

We chose a lantern based on this quote from Christine Caine's book, "Undaunted".  She writes:

“When Jesus said to go into all the world (Matthew 28:19), he didn’t mean to wait until morning, or until you get the right job, or find the perfect spouse, or have raised the kids right, or have your house in order, or find a spare weekend.  Christ brought us light in the darkness so that we can reach everyone living a nightmare now.  He longs to shake us awake so that we can shout out the truth— that humankind is made for eternity but trapped in time, and time is running out.  He means for us to be a lantern in the darkness.  He means for us to find and rescue others because we know what it is to be lost and then found, hurting and then healed.

He means for us to walk into the gap where he’s thrown down the cross, to walk like him, to walk with him.

               Unwilling to stay asleep.

               Unafraid of the dark.

Unflinching in the face of disappointment.

Unstoppable in the face of difficulty.

               Undaunted.”

Flame Color

The ribbon in the lantern is hot pink for cleft lip and cleft palate.

Mama and Baby in the flame

The flame is based on a biblical reference from Daniel 3 (The Message), which is the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

This story provides a perspective shift, which is a good way to look at the cleft journey.  Walking alongside your child through all the procedures, surgeries, and treatments can be extremely taxing, but you work together to get through it.  It is trial by fire, but we’re not consumed… it makes us stronger on the other side.

Proverbs 27:17 (NLT)

"As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend."
